I have a 2003 GMC Sierra 8.1L v8 is has the padlock symbol coming on steady bright sometimes and sometimes not. The main problem is that the truck will crank but not fire up sometimes only after it cranks for a long time like 20-30 seconds then it will start and alot of black smoke comes out. Once started it runs ok. The padlock/half car light sometimes illuminates. I think it is a passlock problem and would like to disable it without going to the dealer and get the run around. Can I just replace some parts simply? Maybe the ignition switch? I also have read alot about the problem but cannot find the actual cause/defect of the problem. What is the manufacture's defect as to why this is happening?

The pass lock system disables the ignition, the fuel system or the starter to prevent your vehicle from being stolen , there may be a fault in the anti-theft module or wiring. Replacing the ignition switch won't solve the problem, system must be diagnose by dealer to find out what the problem is, and the reprogram after the problem is fixed, reprogramming cost about $75.
The black smoke is in fact high hydrocarbon because when you start the car many time by pushing on the gas pedal, engine flood and black smoke because it burn until engine runs normal.
Explaining how to disable anti theft or pass lock is same as giving the key to your car to anybody who want to steal it.
