96 GMC Sierra 5.0

Vehicle has sit up for roughly 1 year and cranked fine, but started to miss as though it was not firing on all cylinders or did not seem to advance with the timing. This is true for both idling and accelerating. It did not show these symptoms the first 5-7 minutes of run time.

We checked the distributer. The gas flows in throttle body when accelerator is pumped, but will not idle on it's own. While this is not a very detailed synopsis of the problem, the truck is currently stuck in an undesirable location not readily available for work.

However, the previous driver had mentioned that this was a problem prior to letting it set up.

Check the fuel pressure to rule out the fuel filter and fuel pump. If okay could be one of the following

Dirty fuel injectors (cleaning the injectors often fixes this).
Bad MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor
Bad TPS (throttle position) sensor
Bad or dirty MAF (mass airflow) sensor
Low fuel pressure (leaky fuel pressure regulator or weak fuel pump)
Vacuum leaks (intake manifold, vacuum hoses, throttle body, EGR valve)
Bad gasoline (fuel contaminated with water or too much alcohol)

Sometimes, what feels like a hesitation is actually ignition misfire rather than lean misfire. The causes of ignition misfire may include:

Dirty or worn spark plugs
Bad plug wires
Weak ignition coil
Wet plug wires
