Where is the steering shaft breaking? Are you noticing any difficulty turning the wheel before this happens? Are there any strange noises?

The power steering pump shaft is a common problem. You need to make sure you are installing the pulley properly. Do NOT hammer the pulley on. Only use a pulley installer. Make sure the pulley is pressed on flush with the pump shaft. There should not be any of the pulley showing past the pump shaft.
