What causes hesatation and stall when you push down on gas peddle wile driving? Back fire when at idal and you give it alot of gas

It could be a few things. Have you checked for vacuum leaks? Also, has the check engine light come on? Finally, have you checked to see if the catylatic converter is plugging?
