I just bought this car used it is a one owner vehicle and has 212,000 miles on it. Seems pretty clean for the age and the owner seemed to take care and service it, so he says.

Owner says the gas level does not work. When I first drove it the gauge read empty and the light on the dash said low fuel.

The second time I drove it the level said full and the low fuel light was off.

I am wondering if this is just a simple float replacement? My understanding is with this vehicle you can pull it through the trunk.

Looking for general troubleshooting guidance.

It sounds like a bad fuel sending unit yes you can replace it Through the trunk. You can test the fuel sending unit with a multi meter. Most likely you have a bad fuel sending unit. It is common for them to go bad.
