After I checked the fuel pressure, the valve now leaks fairly badly, causing a slow startup and the cabin to smell like gas. How do I fix it?

It should be like a tire valve core and changed with the same tool. You can get a valve core tool from amazon. Check out this link:

Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

Would I be able to use a regular tire valve core? Or does it have to be a specific part? On Rockauto there is a part called Fuel Pressure Relief Valve for around $20.00 but it looks exactly like a tire valve core. But I read somewhere that the seal on the tire valve core does not withstand fuel as well as the specific part, so it would fail rather quickly and start leaking again.

That is correct, it needs to be for the fuel rail, I believe the local auto parts store have them.
