Not starting, could it be the fuel pump?

I thought the fuel pump went out. Replaced the fuel pump, pickup still won’t start. I am getting power to the fuel pump, would anything else be keeping the fuel pump from running? Or does it sound like the new fuel pump I got is bad?

Hi,

If you are getting power and ground to the pump motor, it should run. If it isn't, chances are the new pump is no good or there is a connection issue at some point.

Have you confirmed there is no fuel pressure? If not try this.

See if the engine starts if you use starting fluid. If it does and then stalls, we know it is a fuel-related issue. If there is no change, I need you to check for spark a the plugs.

Here is a link that explains how that is done:

Also, here is a link that explains how to check for diagnostic trouble codes. This truck has an OBD1 system. You don't need a scanner to get codes. All you need is a short jumper or even a paper clip.

Let me know what you find. Also, I believe this engine came in the 3500. Please confirm that as well as whether it has dual fuel tanks.

Take care,

joe
