The car has wet plugs so fuel is getting onto them. The engine then does not fire on all and ends up struggling. I do not know any more than that. Thanks

This should be a coil over plug ignition, if so you may have one or more faulty coils. If a coil pack, it may be shorting across the coil knocking out two cylinders and causing the misfire. Check these first.

Okay thanks, but what is causing the fuel to reach the plugs in the first place?

Check the fuel pressure. If it is too high it will cause the cylinders to flood with gas and foul the spark plugs. If the fuel pressure is too high, the small amount of time the fuel injector is open, too much fuel will squirt through the open injector because of the higher than normal fuel pressure. Another possibility is if it is always just the same few spark plugs that are gas fouling, maybe you have them fuel injectors dripping or leaking gas.
You could try a fuel injector cleaning.
I would lookup the fuel pressure spec, but I do not see a 1.6l engine listed. What is the 8th digit of your VIN number, that is the engine code. If it is a 3, 5 or P it is a 2.0l and if it is a Z, it is a 2.3l.

The injectors will activate with the engine rotating regardless if there is spark or not, so with a faulty coil and no spark, they injector will spray fuel and it will not be ignited and this is what you may be seeing, but as the last poster mentioned, high fuel pressure can also do this, but you would expect to see all plugs fuel fouled if this was the case.
