I have oil all over front of engine, belts, alternator etc. Trying to nail down where it would be coming from. Could it be the front crankshaft seal?

Hi,

More than likely this is a seal that is related to or close to the belt because if you have oil all over this area it is getting flung all over as the belt spins.

The most likely cause of this is the power steering pump but the way to figure it out is to clean the entire area with a spray cleaner and then start the engine again and see where it is coming from. If it is what I suspect, you will want to wear safety glasses because it can get in your eyes.

Let me know if you have questions about this and we can go from there. Also, once you figure out which it is, let me know and I can help with repairs.

Thanks

Well I know it is motor oil all over the front of the engine. Not power stearing fluid. Thanks

Okay, that limits it down. So I think you are good to go with the crank seal. The only thing I would do it make sure that it is the crank and the dampener is the one spraying it around. I would hate to do all that and it is something else dripping on the belt and it is getting sprayed around that way. It will only take a few minutes and a couple can of brake clean to spray off the front of the engine and then retest it.

Once you confirm it, here is the procedure for replacing it. Unfortunately they are not very detailed so let me know if you need more info and I will try to find a video or something. Thanks

I have looked a couple times and I have not found a video of your engine. I even tried to find one in another car but the same engine and I can't find it. Found a 2.4L but that is not close enough. I reached out to a contact I have to see if he can get me more detail. I will get back with you ASAP.
