2000 Ford Explore with a 4.0 engine. Car wouold start but would not stay running at idle speed. Turned the idle screw up to where oit would idle normal knowing that wasn't going to fix the problem but would get me thru the day. Car ran fine that day but if you revved the engine it would come back to a high idle for a couple seconds and then to a normal idle. The next day the car won't idle again.

90% of your idle problem is caused by the Idle Air Controller which is a silver module about the size of 2 flashlight batteries located in the inteake plenimum.

Remove the module and clean the carbon from the open are aon the bottom. Use a good grade of carb cleaner. Let it dry and replace it.

Another cause could be your Mass Air Flow Sensor. They often get debris that cause idle problems. Something as small as a cat hair can be a problem.

Good Luck
