Transmission problem
1997 Ford Thunderbird V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic 230K miles

Hi - the O/D light is flashing and my gargage told me a DTC code of 1270 indicates a transmission problem. The transmission appears to run fine, no slippage, etc. The Vehicle Speed Sensor was recently replaced.

Before I drop the car into a transmission shop, I'd really like to know the significance of this code and what repairs are possible, especially as the transmission appears OK!

Thanks for your assistance

Hi ewhite
Your trany maybe all right because P1270is set when engine or vehicle speed exceeded calibrated limit possible causes:
wheel slippage from mud, ice, water etc
over revved engine
vehicle driven at excessive rate of speed
If none of these occured clear codes this may have been set when vss was replaced
