Power door lock problem

1994 Ford Taurus, 3.0L, 4 doors, 187000 miles, without remote control for door locks. None of the four power door locks will unlock when I try to unlock them from either the driver- or passenger-side switches on the armrests. No sound is made that would indicate any activation is happening when I depress the unlock side of either switch. Both these switches still function, however, to lock all four doors. Is there a relay that needs to be replaced?

Justanold,
Thanks for the helpful response. The implications seem to be that because the passenger-side door lock switch is not currently unlocking the doors either, that the signal from that door lock switch must pass through the driver-side door lock switch on the way to the 4 door lock motors. Is that correct?
Regards,
Jim

Dear justanold,

Your advice was right on target! I removed the driver-side power door lock switch. I happened to show it to a friend at work, who recommended I take it apart. I did that and then cleaned all the internal and external contacts. I put everything back together again and then depressed the unlock side of the driver-side switch. I was certainly pleased when I heard the "thunk" of the doors unlocking. As you predicted, the switch on the passenger side now unlocks as well.

Thanks for the great advice!
Regards,
Jim
