Thank you for your quick response. Fyi. I did not use a universal sensor, the one a purchase was for my Taurus. Where do I find the troubleshooting chart?

I dont have anything to donate today, but maybe soon.
I need to know about the check engine light coming on. I had it check out at Advance Auto and the saleman said I needed to change the spark plugs and wires. I did that and the light did not go off. What else could it be? I have replaced the transmisson a year ago brand new. I have a bad master cylinder to replace also, and a power steering pump.

Hello,

What was the engine code? If it was a code for a misfire then there could be other reasons for the misfire. It could also be that the code just needs to be cleared. You can go back by Advanced and have then recheck the codes, WRITE THEM DOWN, if still tell you about the plugs and wires then ask them to clear the code. If engine light comes back on within a day or so, depending on the driving distance. Then go back and have them pull codes again and post them here.

Check engine light on

Have the computer scanned for code/s-you have a problem within the engine management system that caused the CEL to turn on-This is your starting point of diagnosis, finding out what's going on.

If you try to accelerate hard once the car reaches about 50mph it starts to jerk and will not let you accelerate futher until you let off the gas and ease back into it. Also, if you start up a hill and ease into the gas it jerks once again at about 50mph. I've changed the plugs, plug wires, fuel filter, transmission fluid and filter. The battery light comes on pretty regular so I thought the problem could be electrical but no check engine light.

If the battery light comes on, you need to address that problem first. Have the charging system load tested, battery and alt. If the system voltage gets too low, the car wont perform properly

2003 Ford Taurus Engine Light on for no apparent reason - what do we look at first?

One month ago had the AC Pulley assembly replaced and also the serpentine belt and the bearings/pulley involved with that.

Get the vehicle scanned for codes and see what is stored. There are thousands of things that can be wrong cant just give you an answer on what to check first. If I was to guess check the gas cap

My engine light came on about 4 weeks ago, stayed on for about a week and went off. Then the other day it came back on. The car runs and drives fine. No hesitation or rough idle. Routine maintenance is done regularly. What could be the cause of this?

You need to have your local auto parts store or repair shop plug in a hand held code reader to see what caused the light to come on. Most places will get a code reading and be able to tell what tripped the check engine light for no charge. Then you can decide if it is a repair that you can do yourself or if you need a shop to fix it.

I own a 2003 Ford Taurus and the a/c started "cutting out". It would get warm and then we'd shut it off for about 20-30 minutes and it work again for about 20 minutes. My father-in-law recharged it and it worked better than it has since I've owned it. Two days later it quit working altogether and then the service engine light came on. What could the problem be and can we fix it without taking it to a mechanic?

You must do two things here, first you will have to get a scan done to check for the set fault codes as indicated by the light on, secondly, I feel the the A/C system has a leak, you will have to get the system part charged and add a leak detector dye to try and help find any possible system leaks, start here.

My check engine light came on followed by the brake light while driving.

I'm going to replace the front disk brakes in the next few days, but is it possible for the brake problem to cause the check engine light?

First thing you need to do is have the codes read, Post the results with the code number(s). Even if the service engine light is not on, there should be freeze frame data stored.
If it won't make it, buy a cheap scanner, they can be had for 30-40 dollars, a good investment, since they cover all cars sold in the USA from 96 on.
If the light is blinking, it means possible damage to the converter. Service it right away!
