Hi
My wife has a 2002 Ford Taurus automatic with 78,000 miles. We started to notice its leaking transmisson fluid. It runs fine and shifts fine. Can it just be the transmission gasket that needs replacing. I know this is not much to go on but I'm wondering if it could be a cheap fix or am I in for a nightmare expense. I just spent 941.00 three weeks ago on this car and I'm tapped out.
Like I said it shifts fine and the only problem is its leaking fluid.
Thanks
Ralph

Ralph. The best thing to do is not speculate!
If you have a floor jack & some jack stands, lift it up. Go under & take a PEEK! If you don't have equipment, bring it to the local repair shop & have them perform a check. I'm sure it's not going to cost too much to check. Once they tell you whats wrong, you'll have an idea of what it's gonna cost.
If the trans pan gasket is leaking, a trans service should cost you no more then a $100. If it's anything more then that. Please come back and tell us about it. I would love to hear from you!
Hope this helps. Good luck!

Hi
I just looked under the car and it looks like the leak is coming from the Transmission pan. My brother has a torque wrench so I think I'll try to tighten it before I take it to a garage. I have to go to the library to find out how many pounds of torque are needed.
Thanks for your help, most times I wouldn't bother but I'm getting hammered with bills right now so I have to give it a shot.
Thanks again, I'll let you know how I make out.
