1994 Ford Ranger, 3L V6, rebuilt motor 120000km, manual. Here's the deal, on cold starts, the idle climbs and drops repetedly until engine gets warmer! While this is happenning, the Amps gauge indicates a severe drop, especially when headlights are turned on!! What could be the cause of this??

the amps would be low if the engine is idling erratically.

also set a higher fuel mixture to help engine stay running while idling till it heats up. ALso if engine light is on the coolant sensor could be faulty and send a wrong temp to the ecm causing it to misadjust the proper fuel mixture.
