I have a pre march 1996 ford ranger. When the ignition switch is turned to the off position the engine continues to run and all accesories are still active. I have to disconnect the battery in order to deactivate them. I replaced the actual key switch but it does the same thing. I can still use the key to start the engine. The switch does feel loose when the key is turned.

Hi C. O'Barr,

Remove the ignition switch and use a screw driver to manually turn the switch to ON and ACC. Note if the dash lighs comes on and goes off. If switch operates correctly, check the ignition key lock. If the tab for turning the ignition switch is loose and has excessive free travel, you would have to rectify that.
