I think there may be a problem with the heating/cooling system. Fluid is leaking from the hoses and valve that comes from what I think is the heating/cooling system.
When the truck is cold it does not want to run like it is stalling and cutting out. After a few minutes it appears to run normal but will periodically sputter and the engine temperature goes up and down dramatically. Fluid leaks on hot engine and casues smoking?
The two hoses and valve are on the passenger side of the engine close to the AC intake valve.
Is this something I could repair myself and what parts/tools would I need?
I tried to upload a picture of the valve/hoses in question but the website would not upload the picture.

It sounds like water pump replacement time to me. Don't drive until you get it fixed. A new head or engine will be needed if you get it too hot.
You can do it yourself if you go down to the liberary, find the book on your vich. Read the water pump replacement section and still think you can do it!

Good luck,
Skid
