Brake light stopped working

Recently, I just bought my first car, a 1959 Ford Custom. All the electrical work was functioning properly untill a few days ago, when I lifted the carpet to paint the floor in front of the first row of seats. Now, whenever I step on the brakes, the brake lights do not indicate that I am stopping. However, the rear lights still turn on when I switch them on for night driving. Maybe I bumped something when I pulled up the carpet? I would greatly appreciate any suggestions to fixing this problem.
Take care,
Riel

When you pulled up the carpet check to see if any wires were attached to it. If not test the fuses. The fuses may have just gone bad. If that doesn't help you may have a break in the circut use a test light and check all the wiring at the light. If one doesn't light up trace the wire with a wiring diagram and find the break. Hope that helps!
