Engine acts up

mileage 183029 V8 5.0

My girlfriends car was running fine and then it went to the shop for something and then it started to stall out and get bad gas mileage. We cranke it up it runs fine for a min and then it starts to strugle and black smoke comes out and then it cuts off any ideas

What was the car serviced for? Black smoke means theres lots of unburnt fuel in the engine. Maybe they unplugged your fuel regulator?

I dont know her dad said it had a on road and a off road switch and that is whn it startd to miss up and for some reason they took it out but I ajustd the therottle cable a littl and that fixed it a little but it still shoots out black liquid on to the drive way any ideas
