2002 Ford Mustang drivers window not going up or down

2002 Ford Mustang 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual
my sons drivers window will some times go up then won't go down or visa/versa. He ends up changing fuses but this morning we noticed that the interior lite sometimes come on when we open his door and sometimes not so we believe there is a short in the wires running from the car through to the door. Our question can we pull the rubber dust seals off from the car side or what?

Welcome to the forum. When the problem occurs does the other window work ok? I'm not sure how difficult to remove the master switch? Lite blue wire with black tracer carries voltage to master switch.
