I have a 98 Mustang that just suddenly appeared with a check engine light and a fan on at the same time. I don't think that it has anything to do with it, but also the steering wheel seems to be a bit sloppier than usual as well. Could be my imagination though. The main issue is that these lights are both on, but the car is not running strangely, does not sound like it is running differently, and has no trouble starting. What should I be looking for here? I just bought the car about 6 months ago, have only driven about 4,000 miles in it, and have not done any maintenance except the oil and air filter. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance.

This could be related so we need to start by checking the codes and find out what is there.

If this is a coolant temperature sensor, then it will have the fan on high just to be sure the engine doesn't overheat. So here is a guide that will help with checking the codes:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/checking-a-service-engine-soon-or-check-engine-light-on-or-flashing

The steering issue will not be related but depending on what codes are there will have a better direction on where to go.

I am attaching the info from the manual on how to replace the ECT as I suspect we have an issue related to it, but we need to start with checking the codes so that we can do the proper testing.

Thanks
