Hi there -

I just relocated from south Florida to New Orleans two weeks ago. On my first day (literally) in the city, NOLA had 6 inches of rain and there was a street flood - I got about half an inch of water on the driver's side and left passenger side of the floorboards...I caught it early, moved the car to higher ground, and everything seemed fine.

Every morning I commute 20 miles one way to work - often over horrendous potholes.

So those are the variables in play here.

I drive a 1996 Ford Mustang (automatic), and I'm sure the alignment and suspension now hate me. Yesterday, inexplicably, the odometer, tripometer and gas gauge all stopped worked. The other gauges on the dashboard seem right - like the speedometer, for example.

Is this a fuse issue? Or something more sinister? :)

Help!

Too broke from my move to buy a new car...

Might be sinister......LOL
Those gauges dont rewally share much except for the main plugs at the dash and at the fuse block. Stick your head up under the dash and look for any water hat might have gotten higher than you think

OK, so the gas gauge is working just fine - phew!

So it's just the trip and odom. Sigh.

I do have insurance, but they just laughed at me when I called. I toweled the car out the same afternoon and cleaned the carpet, so there's no real smell. Still...sigh.

I so, so, SO appreciate all of the feedback - is there any reason the odom and trip would have worked for a week and a half following the storm, and then just quit suddenly?

I ask these questions because I also have a '68 - I do most of the repair work on it, because it's such a simple engine. This car, however, scares me a bit, and I don't trust a lot of mechanics (no offense meant at all) because I look about 12 and a lot of mechanics immediately see a dollar sign, thinking I'm somehow foolhardy and an easy mark.

How should I best go about taking care of the connections, given Geico's laughter? :)

Thank you guys so much!
