I just had my clutch repaired and a rebuilt transmission installed. The mechanic suggested I consider replacing the wheel bearings in front. Is this a job I can do, or what would be a reasonable cost at a repair shop?

Hello -

You need some special tools to remove the bearing. It needs to be pressed out and in. Now you could remove the hub and take it somewhere and see if they would press the bearing out and in, but it may be less work/time/expense just to have them do the entire task. Also you will need pullers etc to remove the ball joints etc from the wheel knuckle.

I attached a rough estimate for labor only. . ...I did not have the cost of the bearings.

Hope this helps.
