What would be the average cost to replace an alternator in a 2006 ford focus with 70,000 miles? Also, is it more likely to be more exspensive if we take it to a dealership service shop?

It takes approx. 1 1/2 labor hours to replace your vehicle's alternator. The average shop's pricing is $70 per labor hour. That would be $105 in labor costs, than the new alternator pricing which depends on the brand and where you get it. Dealerships usually cost higher, around $85 - $100 per labor hour.

Hello,

Yes you're more likely to pay more at a dealer.
Avg cost for an alternator is maybe around $350 -550 + tax, maybe a tad less, especially on the 2.3 engine.
My advice: call several shops around town and ask them directly.

Hope this helps
