My ford Fiesta has started to make a loud pitch squeal when starting. It seems to do it when the engines cold and when the cars warmed up the noise goes. It sounds like a steam kettle whistling. What is the cause and how can it be sorted?

The squeeling may be as simple as a belt slipping.
Find out if the belt is tight or if it needs replacing.
If it is not the belt it could be one of the acessories that the belt drives like the alternator, water pump, etc. That needs to be replaced.
