1979 Ford F150 Howling noise in trans area
Noises problem
1979 Ford F150 V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic 125000 miles
1979 F-150, when I hit 38 mph, there is a hum/howling noise from the middle or rear end of the truck. Gets louder as I increase speed. It stops completely when I let off the accelerator or shift into neutral.

Have you checked the rear differential fluid? Make sure it is full and clean. Also, check for play at the pinion bearing and check u-joints.
Let me know what you find.

fluids are all okay. Just did the initial start-up after the engine swap. Tranny was great when it was parked last Friday, before we tore into the engine.
