I have a 2000 Ford Explorer XLT. There are 86,000 miles on it. I had the thermometer replaced 3 weeks ago, because someone said to. But it is still overheating and cutting off while im driving. My ex-boyfriend used to put water in it for me but i dont know how to do that. The water seemed to help though. I noticed some green stuff leaking out once, but not lately. The AC works fine; the oil was just changed. I saw a man who said it is the radiator. Is that true? Who do i see for this type of service? How much does this type of thing usually cost? I am a single mom of 5; price is a factor. Thanks for your help.

You need to find a good mechanic who can be trusted. Ask him to check for leaks and pressure test the cooling system. It could be something as simple as a hose leaking. Or it could be the radiator or water pump. That's why it's important to find an honest mechanic. Talk with your friends or co-workers to find one. Also, find someone who can check and add coolant until you can take it in. It's bad for an engine to run hot or overheat.
