94 Ford Explorer - 120,000 miles
Car runs fine except when towing 1800 lb pop-up camper. After an hour, the check engine light comes on and the car starts "jumping". Gas mileage decreases. Carbon monoxide detector in camper starts beeping. Disconnect the camper and let the car cool down and it runs fine again. Code is 341 - Octane incorrect or octane adjust service pin open or octane adjuster circuit open - no one can figure out why.Any ideas? Thanks!

Is your octane shorting bar still inline??? If yes, check the resistance of the circuit, if good, then either the circuit is open. the shorting bar itself is bad, or the signal return is bad if the resistance is alright,, the pcm may also be at fault, however Ford units are pretty reliable.. If the shorting bar is not there, supposedly there must be a decal noting modification to the sytem
