A mechanic told me I need the timing chain replaced on my Ford, said it would be expenisive and he would get back to me on the price.
How much does one of these cost in Michigan?
The car was running okay, the oil gauge went crazy (flectuating between low and high temp very rapidly) then the car just died.

depends on engine type. if 8th digit of your VIN is "E", your vehicle has 4 different timing chains, not sure which one is being replaced so its hard to give you an estimate. however, for just replacing one chain it will take at least 8 labor hours and most shops charge anywhere from $50 - 80 an hour. if 8th digit of your VIN is "X" , cost will be much cheaper and an estimate is below for it..
