What really needs to be replaced on a 4.0L ford SOHC
when you start to hear rattling noise?

Also I'm being told the motor has to be completely removed to get to chains on the back of the motor.
Most quotes are approx. $2500.00.
Why spend this kind of money when you could get a re-man engine w/ warrenty?

Is it just the center front chain that usually goes?

Unfortuneately what they have told you is true the eng has to come out to replace the rear chain.

Nothing is common in this monster. So basicly what it comes down too is exactly where is the rattle front not so bad. Rear lot of time. And also you have the valve thing to contend with. Just wasn't one of fords better ideas
