I recently shifted into reverse and heard a loud knock form the rear of the SUV. The vehicle would not move in reverse or forward. I shifted from auto to 4WD low and it moved forward but will not go in reverse. I have not had the transmission serviced in about 2 years. Any information would be greatly appreciated, to take with me to the shop. Thanks.

Sounds like a trans issue. If it was drivetrain it should have still moved both directions in 4wd. If you put it in neutral can you roll it forward and rear? This iwll rule out the rear end

I can push it forward and backwards, but I can't drive it in reverse. Thanks.

Then it is most likely the trans that broke. Have a reputable trans shop look at it to verify this, but it may be time for a rebuild
