Car normally starts within 1 or 2 seconds of turning the ignition key. Lately, it has been taking up to 10 seconds, lots of cranking. Had it checked at the local Ford dealership, $100 later no problems identified. They indicated it might be a failing fuel pump, but wanted it overnight to diagnose. Battery is new.

It could be the fuel pump itself or something called fuelpump drop off which basically means you loose pressure due to a leak, faulty pump, or a leaking fuel injector. As a result, you need to crank the engine until the pressure is regained. What I would like you to do is check for this. Here is a video how to and directions for checking fuel pump pressure and drop off. You will need a gauge to do it. Many parts stores will lend or rent the gauge to you.

Let me know what you find.
