1999 Ford Explorer engine floods

I will start it and it will run for a while then it will race then it will flood and die. I hold the gas wide open and it will start then flood again. There are no codes.

Pull the vacuum line from the fuel pressure regulator, and check for fuel. Could also be a leaking injector or a bad intake manifold gasket.

BTW, Explorers did not have 4 cylinder engines. The base engine was the 4.0 V6.
