II have a 94 explorer that has started to suddenly shut down. The problem had been intermittent until just yesterday while I was returning home. The engine suddenly shut down and would not restart. I did not a bit of hesitation that started before the shutdown. It would stop, then when restarting, it would chug until it got revved up to about 3K rpm. At that point it would seem to run ok.
I had the car towed to a garage where the mechanic measured the fuel pressure at 36 psi. His thought then was no spark. He will be looking around the electrical system today.
I am presently a grad student and do not have a lot of money for repairs or to replace the explorer.

I sounds like the ignition module went out and that is what has been going out all along.

THis is what it looks like. Now the coils are bolted to it and the spark plug wires also go to it. Hope this helps

OK, I have just picked the explorer up from the mechanic. He was suggestion that the thiing was out of gas. What ever, the explorer is running again.

After picking up the explorer, I tried to put gas in it, but could only put in 2.6 gal.

The mechanic said that he measuered sufficent spark but it only started when he put a gallon of gas in.

I need a place nice soft spot to bang my head.

Glad to hear it is running again. Unfortunitly we now have to wait till it happens again to diagnos it. Hope it doesn't happen again for you anyway. Let me know if anything else comes of it ok.
