We just got a 1993 ford explorer, after day #2 we noticed a pretty bad shake when giving the car gas when driving.
once it levels out it does ok, but everytime gas mashed it shakes!
can it be timing?
how can I check the timing?
i need a visual diagram.
it overheated and I cut it off, found out water hose busted!
then it cooled, I added water and drove 1 mile home.
shaking getting worse. Also heard a popping noise.
any ideas?

Get a compression test on this motor, popping, if thru the throttle body is not good. Indicates either a timming problem or a worn camshaft. You can take a quick look at the plugs and wire see if they are routed to the right plugs! Look at all the tune up parts cap rotor wires plugs, and if you can check timming.
