If the starter is staying engaged check to see if your ignition switch is sticking. If the switch is not sticking you have a solenoid problem. The solenoid is located on top of the starter. If the solenoid is working properly then the Bendix is hanging on the Armature. Both problems can be resolved by replacing the starter.
