Weird Starting Problem

When I start my Ford Escort ZX2 1998 when it's cold it starts up and then immediately stalls, I turn the key and try again and it it always starts fine. All the plugs and wires are new.

It always stalls on the first attempt and always starts on the second attempt. Any ideas?

Fuel pressure regulator or failing fuel pump when you turn your ignition on do you hear your fuel pump pressurize. Next time you go to start it turn the key to the furthest setting before crancking the engine listen and wait for the fuel pressure to build and stop buzzing then try good luck
