2001 Ford Escort 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

just had rebuilt motor put in car, driven already about 1,000 miles has been running fine. Went to store, car drove fine, came out and car would not start. Towed to neighbor who works on cars he said it is getting fuel and fire but it is not spraying. What causes the injectors not to spray.

Hi there,

Thank you for the donation,

There are a few things that can cause this so the best way to start checking faults is to get a scan done and see if there are any unresolved fault codes, start here and let me know what you find.

He said it did not throw any codes because it is a no-start, however, about a week ago check engine light came on and he put on cumputer and code came up mass air flow sensor. He reset it and said it would be okay until I saved the money to buy it. It is about 140.00 and I only drive about 50 miles a week. I am disabled - lupus - and do not get out much. This was also told to me by auto parts store it would be okay to drive for a couple of weeks until I got money for part. Both said it controls airflow for emissions and regulates better gas mileage and such

Hi there,

Yes you should be able to drive it but just be aware that if it does fail you may get stranded, I would get it done sooner rather than later, that all.

I did get stranded yesterday, drove fine to store, came back out and car would not start, had it towed, that is when neighbor checked it out and said it was getting fuel and fire but was not spraying and did not know what would cause the car to tell the injectors not to spray. That was my original question - as far as your reply, get diagnostic, he said it is a no-start, so how do you get a code to tell you if it is a no-start

You need to get hold of an OBD11 scanner, you do not need it running, just ignition on and a charged battery to extract any codes.

Thank you for the info, I will ask him what kind of scanner he has, it could be he didn't even hook it up and is waiting until today. If he does not have this scanner, i'm sure ford dealership does, do they charge to do this test, (i would have to tow it there) and about how much.I live in waller texas, 77484, is the closest dealership tomball ford?

I really appreciate the time, advice and help you have given me. Again thank you for the help!
