How do I get the shift cable out through the firewall?
Which way does it pull from inside or out?

Well it seems I will answer my own question!
After disconnecting the cable both under the hood and from the shifter. There are 2 (TWO) 10mm nuts that remain.
These are located under the dash behind the airbox where the cable goes through the firewall. Yes they are difficult to get to,
Once those are removed you can then pull the cable out from INSIDE the car!
