1996 Ford Escort stuck in reverse

Changed shifter bushing, tried tapping under the car on linkage to see if it is stuck between 2 gears, and bled the clutch.

If the linkage is correctly installed and the car won't shift out of R with the engine off, it sounds like internal transmission problems.

I have taken the car to a mechanic and he said that the transmission was "good and tight". Do you think that it is possibly stuck between 2 gears? Or maybe something inside the linkage is broken?

The only thing it could be is either the trans itself or the linkage. If it won't shift with the engine off, it has to be one of the two.
