Engine Performance problem
1995 Ford Escort Front Wheel Drive Automatic 135000 miles

The next time I go to start the escort it is idleing rough , poor power, lousy acceleration, no power on hills MPG went from 30 to 16mpg. Whats wrong?

Hi:
Has the check engine light come on? Have you checked for vacuum leaks? Finally check the catylatic converter to make sure that it isn't starting to plug.

most of the time your engine will spit out the check engine light which you can go to most auto stores and get the code reading service for free, this will allow you to know what your engine is saying is not right.

with my old ford escort when my spark plugs got too lean, I lost some SERIOUS gas mileage and engine performance. my idling wasn't that rough though but I did have some issues with it.

Your converter could be clogged up which would make it idle ruff.

Is it making any odd noises?
