1994 Ford Escort It Will Not Start

It will not start today. The key turns the ignition, and light shows on the dashboard but it will not makea sound or start

If you turn the interior light on and try to start the car, what happens to the light. Does it stay lit, turn off, etc?

It stays lit.

Someone bypassed the wires and reached the starter and it started without using the ignition key.
Does this suggest the starter is fine and not the issue?

Yes, it seems that the starter is ok. Sounds like you might have a bad ignition switch or an open wire somewhere.
