1993 Ford Escort Gas leak, won't start

My Escort began to lose power. My daughter pulled over because the Check Engine Light came on. The vehicle would not start back up and when I tried it gas began to come from the front part of the engine. It does not leak gas while just sitting only when I try to start the car.

Please help.

It's only leaking when you are trying to start it cause the fuel pump doesn't run when it's just sitting there.

Have a helper turn the key while you are looking for the fuel leak under the hood.

So what your saying is it could be the fuel pump or a gas line?

The problem is the gas line in the engine compartment. Have someone crank the engine while you look for the leak.
For safety have an extinguisher closeby in case of fire you are dealing with a flamable liquid.
