I drive a ford escort and I hit a large rock on night while driving at night on the drivers side and immediatly after hitting this rock on the drivers side it punctured my tire and for some reason my car dies and didnt want to start the starter motor will turn the engine but the engine will not fire up and turn on so I went to work checking spark plugs they seem to be fine the I checked the distributor all of that is fine I checked then I checked all fuses they seem to be fine then I checekd the fuel lines and the fuel filter it seems fine (no clog) then I checked the fuel pump conneckted it directly to the battery and it seems to work just fine but I noticed that the fiel pump does not work when I turn the key to just before the car cranks over I was wondering if anybody has any ideas

INERTIA SWITCH

1. In event of a collision, electrical contacts in inertia switch open and fuel pump automatically shuts off. Fuel pump will shut off even if engine does not stop running. Engine will stop due to lack of fuel.
2. Engine cannot be restarted until inertia switch is manually reset. To reset inertia switch, depress button on switch. Inertia switches may be found in the following locations:
On Crown Victoria and Grand Marquis station wagon models, in the left rear side storage compartment.
On RWD vehicles (except wagons), in trunk, on the left hinge support or behind trim panel.
On Sable and Taurus, on left side of trunk (except station wagon).
On Taurus and Sable station wagon models, behind access door in right rear cargo area.
On all other vehicles, in trunk on left hinge support or behind trim panel.

***3 & 5-Door Models In right side of cargo area, above wheelwell.
***4-Door Models In right side of luggage compartment.
***Wagon In right rear corner of cargo area, to rear of wheelwell.

CAUTION: DO NOT reset inertia switch until fuel system has been inspected for leaks.
