I just bought a 2002 Ford Escape and it just started making a whistling weezing kind of sound coming from the rear of the car. It sounds like it's coming from the rear axle or somewhere around there. I also have had a few problems starting the car but 9 times out of 10 it starts. I was just wondering if the two had anything to do with each other, or if not what they could be. Thanks for your time.

Could it be considered a whine? Begin at about 30-35mph? If yes, it's probably a hub bearing. No it would not have anything to do with starting. If you answered yes to the above!

No it starts immediately when I start the car and it continues until I turn off the ignition. It stops right when I turn the car off as well and doesn't change pitch or volume while accelerating at all.

Yep turddog, you may have it...and if pump is weak, it can cause starting problems. test fuel pressure.

The noise stopped now. It was going for about a half an hour but I was driving the whole time. I got home about a half an hour ago and it hasn't been running since and I went out to test Turddog's theory and the whine had stopped. I'm still going to test the fuel pressure tho, thanks a lot guys.
