Have a 1997 Ford Contour SVT, 2.5L engine, 6 cyl, 120,000 miles. The engine just recently started to overheat and the inside of the car gets no warm air - checked the coolant level and added a little coolant, no help, changed the thermostat, still no help and overheating. Had coolant system flushed and was told it was probably NOT the heater core, since the system to flush it would not work if the heater core was bad? There is no coolant in the oil and we are not losing coolant, so I don't think we have a blown head gasket. Could I have a bad water pump even if we do not have a leak? Someone told my husband there is a fan inside the water pump which could be bad and it would not leak but would overheat. I also wondered if there could be a second thermo-controller? Or perhaps a fuse which may be bad?

Try bleeding it see below-don't work check the fan/s and the water pump

Always bleed air from cooling system after replacing coolant. Set heater for maximum heat. Remove radiator cap. Loosen drain plug and remove drain bolt (if equipped) from engine block. Drain coolant reservoir. Fill coolant reservoir to MAX mark with 50/50 water-coolant mixture. Loosen bleed bolt and fill radiator up to base of filler neck. Close bleed bolt when coolant flows out without bubbles. Tighten bleed bolt. With radiator cap removed, start and operate engine to normal operating temperature. Add coolant if necessary and check for leaks.
