1998 Ford Contour Car wont start

1998 Ford Contour 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

The transmission has been messed up in my car. You have to be completely stopped. Then manually shift it into drive, but it skips 2nd gear. Plus the speedometer is broken. Sometimes its hard to do and doesnt shift right away causing the tempature to rise fairly high. All of a sudden I went to leave and my car would not start. Its turning over, I know its not the battery bc my lights still come on. But Its like there is no compression, the motor is running freely. But there is no smoke or anything. ANd now the oil smells like gas. Any idea what the problem could be?

It sounds like you have a stuck injector or a bad fuel pressure regulator and it's dumping fuel into the cylenders. Remove a couple spark plugs and see if they are wet. Also, change the oil as soon as you get it running.
