Engine Performance problem
1995 Ford Contour 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

My sons 1995 ford contour not sure of the mileage. When in drive and stopped at a light it shakes and occasionally it will miss when he is driving. And the check engine light is on, but it turns off when you shut of the motor and doesn't come on again until he is in drive and it shifts to second. We changed the fuel filter and it is still happening. The check engine light came on after he put a new stereo in it. Thanks for any help

When I had it checked they said it had no codes. Once you shut it off and restart it the engine light is off until you out it into drive and move.

The codes remain in memory once the light comes on until either the battery is disconnected or the codes are erased.
