Engine Mechanical problem
1988 Ford Bronco V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic a lot miles

Ive got an 88 Bronco with a 351w, that won't start. It died on me on the freeway, so I towed it home to take a look. Initially I thought it was the fuel pump, but I smell gas from the breather when I try to start it, as well as the tailpipe. I found I had no spark, so after replacing the ign. Module, coil, cap, rotor, wires and plugs, I have spark, but it still wont fire. I used fordfuelinjection. Com's self test procedure to pull a code 96 for a "fuel pump secondary circuit failure-battery voltage not found on fuel pump monitor circuit" But like I said, I definately smelled gas, and my plugs were black, wet, and smelled like gas, which makes me think there has to be gas there. It turns over still, but doesnt fire. I dont have a lot of room or money, so Im in a tough spot considering this is my daily driver. So, here I am, hoping that someone can at least get me pointed in the right direction

Hi, I would check the timeing chain. Then injector pulse. All fuses eec relay you have two or three relays on the dr side fender the green one is fuel the brown one is engine control this fails frequently. Please check these and get back with me and we will go from there thanks billymac

Ive replaced both the EEC and Fuel pump relays. I know the front pump is working, as I can feel it, it also feels like there is fuel moving through the line. Its acting like its not getting fuel but the fouled gas smelling plugs do indicate the presence of fuel though, right?

Ok you have to check fuel pressure. And the pump in the tank and the one on the frame have to work low pressure and low pressure pumps. Open the gas flap and listen while someone turns key on. If you have too you can unplug the frame pump and listen for the tank pump. They both work together.
