When I start driving the vehicle won't shift out of first gear for about a mile give or take. So I can't go more than about 20. Then eventually it will shift and move through all of the other gears just fine. I can stop and accelerate and it will work fine once it has shifted through first once. Is it a pressure thing?

Yup, your right it is a pressure problem. Remember that tranny fluid is a lot thicker when cold and will have trouble passing thriugh a plugger filter. After it warms up it thins and will flow better. Do this RIGHT NOW. As when you are starving your clutch packs they are slipping and damaging themselves. Change your fluid and filter. Use ATF+4 (synthetic) and drop a bottle of Lucas in there also. The ford Mini vans had a terrible track record of major failurs. Larry
